Formosan Termites

They are the most destructive species of termites in the US. A species of the subterranean termite that was introduced to the US from East Asia via shipment of wood through the ports (Lousiana and Florida) in the 1940’s. Found in warm areas of the southern states. They have large colonies and hence the destruction and capable of attacking live trees. They are spread through the use of infested rail crossties.
